I sketched with pen first and added color with markers second. The markers really love to bleed; it helps when there is a pen outline however. It acts as a wall for the ink.
I absolutely love, love, love your use of color. Being so not artistically inclined or talented, I don't know much about the specific mediums and techniques discussed here. But I do know that your sketches make me feel good! I check out your blog regularly, especially when I need a pick-me-up. Your work just makes me happy! I enjoy reading your thoughts and observations just as much!

I tried painting donuts once--same problem. I had to work from a photo because I couldn't not eat the still life!
