makeshift pin-up space

With the deadline for finishing up our catalog for next month's National Stationery Show just around the corner, we're running a bit low on pin-up space!

what's black, yellow and happy?

Our home :)

yellow front door : an open sketchbook

A while back [ok, a little over two years ago] I did a little color study on the outside of our home.  From the moment we moved in, this was the first thing we knew we wanted to update on our house.  Well, it took so time, but this fall we finally bit the bullet, and to steal a line from the Rolling Stones, 'painted it black'---literally.  It's amazing what a difference some contrast can make and finally, the outside of our home is a better reflection of the inside.

a balance between work and the boys

For the past few weeks, we've tried almost every formula possible trying to find a balance between having a productive work day and spending time with the boys.  We have to admit it's been a challenge to swing both, but it's getting easier as the boys are learning to play with each other more and more.overwhelmed

conversations with claire

This past weekend we were so happy to have our friends Claire and Matt [who recently moved to DC] stay with us. Saturday was really one of the best days we've had in a long, long time as all we did was catch-up and lounge around.

Claire and Edgar have one of those special friendships where they love to give each other a hard time. For that reason, despite the fact we ALL talked non-stop this weekend, Edgar chose to, uh, highlight Claire's share of the conversation in his journal. Note a few bubbles have been emptied to protect the innocent :)

new goldfish

This morning I woke up to find one of my goldfish with his belly up. It broke my heart. Well, this evening I decided to get a new goldfish. I hope he likes his new home.

a lunch break

maxmileshighchairs

There is so much I could say about this little drawing. But, I'll stick to the fact that it reminded me that it has been far, far too long since I've sat down, away from the computer, and used markers. When it's so easy to be exact in Photoshop, it's so easy to forget the beauty that comes from being imperfect in hand.

letting nature take the lead

threeleaves
In the past Edgar has been determined to rake up the leaves from the million trees that surround our house as soon as they touch the ground. This year, however, the babies [or should I say, our bosses] have kept him too busy indoor to maintain the yard. As a result, when we look out our windows now the ground isn't a mossy green, but a wash of gold and amber. It reminds us just how beautiful nature is when left to do its own thing.

a prickly subject

cactus
We've lived with this cactus for four years. In that time it hasn't grown a millimeter. Makes me wonder just how old it must be..

please excuse the dust

We're back home after a few days on vacation. Feeling rested, relaxed, recharged and ready to rumble...or is it tumble? I'm spending today doing laundry, the likes of which I've never seen before!

Well maybe here.

pacifiers illustrated

It's incredible to me how, at just three months, the babies have such strong preferences when it comes to their latex bling. As I want to remember these tidbits in the future, tonight I decided to create a 'pacifier directory'. But, as is often the case when they are needed, I could only locate a half-dozen of the countless pacifiers hanging out eveeerrrrywhere in our home.

Thus, I present a partial pacifier survey:
pacifier1
These two are the best in the middle of the night when the lights are off. Unlike the others, there is no wrong way to put these in the little guys' mouths.
pacifier3
Max's Favorite. He tends to spit this one out the least.
pacifier2pacifier4
These were given to the boys-to-be by their grandparents this past Christmas. They were presented in two tiny stockings. The yellow one has been a trusted companion from the babies first days at home, but tonight it's headed straight to trash as it looks grimy despite several attempts at sterilization.pacifier5
The pacifier that belongs with this clip is currently in Miles' mouth. I wouldn't dare take it out, no matter how important the drawing.

Well, it's true.
