EDM Challenge: Bread

Some people call money "dough," my dad calls money "bread." I don't know if this is common, but I find it funny. When I go home to visit, he'll always ask me before I leave if I "need any bread." I always say no, but he always asks.

Perhaps because I do not accept my dad's "bread," I find myself buying cheap real bread at the grocery store. Oh, how I love the good stuff, but these days I am on a budget, so I always end up getting what's on sale. This week it was Nature's Own Honey Wheat.

I've been toying with the bread/money idea all week. Glad to see you used it!

I keep buying yummy bread items and eating them in the car before I can get them home to draw!

There's something so endearing about these drawings and the story. I really like your elegant cross-hatching. I don't seem to be able to do it evenly...I get to impatient. Both drawings are just so perfectly clean and simple.

Jana used the word elegant and that is exactly what comes to mind. Elegant and fun. Beautiful again. I love the price detail on the plastic wrap. :-)

Your drawing skill is amazing. Your writing of this little "bread" story reminds me my grandfather who use to do the same thing, asking me if I needed some "dough". I always said "no"... he always gave me money anyway. Thanks for sharing your story... it brings back fond memorys.

Hi. I like the draftsmanship in these drawings. In the second I like how the eye is drawn to the circular $1.69, though it probably wasn't intentional. For my tastes I would consider adding a drop of color OR stylizing the lines a bit, since for me I don't like realism in art.

Thanks for all the feedback! Michael- I think I'm going to take your advice, and try adding some color to these.
