house of a thousand still lifes
I spent the first part of this week up at my parent's house. My mom has the house decorated to a T, despite the fact she really isn't a "holiday person." In addition to the Christmas decorations, my parents' home is packed full of collections...thimbles, old cars, old toys, bakelite, buttons, vintage kitchenware, childrens books, knives, anvils, coins, old porcelain signs, blue willow dishes, cast iron pans ...you name it, they have it. There are SO MANY things to draw...I can't even begin to explain. I hope I can take time to document it all soon. I think it could make for a really nice series. But for now, here's a glimpse at all the stockings hung by the chimney (with care).

This is just gorgeous. I cannot wait to see the drawings of the other things you listed. I love this collection of stockings AND the names are just as cute! Harper, Wren & Betsy - how lovely! Who are they?? I've never heard of anyone called Wren before but it's just the nicest name. Tell us more!
Andrea- Glad you like the stockings...and the names. Like you, I have a lovely nephew and niece, Harper and Wren. Betsy and Rachel are my two sisters and Jim is my brother-in-law.
I think I might have to pinch those names for some charachters! So cute!!
Oh Andrea- I would be so flattered!
The drawing of the socks is so charming and your parents' house sounds like it would be so much fun to hang out and draw in. My mom's house is full of interesting stuff too, but it's all horribly cluttered and piled and mixed up randomly with junk so still life drawing there wouldn't be so charming. I think that's why I like to keep things really simple, almost austere, with no collections, though I have started a closet with still life items.
