polishing my skills

I don't consider myself a "girly-girl" or someone who is particularly prone to excess, so you can imagine my surprise as I was packing up my toiletries tonight and realized I had 23 bottles of nail polish! To make matters worse, I hardly have any nails to paint! However, I realized as I began trying to pry off the caps that the reason that I posess so many polishes is because I haven't thrown away a single one that I have collected since...oh, junior high! I was enjoying reading the names of the colors and the different shapes of the bottles so I decided to draw them. At first I was planning to paint the bottles with watercolor, but then I thought "why not use the polish itself?"

Now that you mention it, I never threw away any of those bottles either since I was maybe 15. And I NEVER paint my nails. I´m not up at 23 yet, but not far from it. You´ve made good use of yours! Nice drawing.

I think I've only bought a handful in my entire life but it did tickle me to hear that black is this winter's top trend. I used to wear it in 1975! (Yikes, I sound like a fossil!) Anyway, love the illustration (did you wear that yellow??) and the illo of the socks is so sweet! Interesting collections your parents have, I hope you get time to draw them!

Blocking in, btw, is just indicating with long lines, the space that the body occupies (like joining the dots of the outermost points). That gets rubbed out as you make the sketchy lines to indicate he proportions and that too gets drawn over with the finer, smoother curvy lines. I find myself too impatient to do it properly just yet!

OK so I think this is my most favourite ever!!! It is FAB! I recently found a bag of nail varnishes and now wish I'd thought of drawing them!

Nina- You better start throwing them away now!
Felicity- Yep, I wore the yellow...I think this was around my senior year in highschool! Thanks so much for the info on blocking in.
Andrea- I'm glad you like it...this was one of teh most fun ones I've ever done!

This is great! I love the drawings and painting them in polish. What fun. A few months ago I finally threw away a bunch of bottles of polish that had congealed to lumps in the bottles so I know what you mean about saving them forever. Except forever for me isn't that long because I was a nail-biter until a few years ago and never used polish until then.

Cute post and I like that you used the actual colors.

What a cool idea! Do i see a couple of Revlons and Mavalas (those are my favorites) in there? Have you decided to throw away any?

Neat idea! I don't throw mine out, either, nor do I wear them. Not sure why I possess them at all. My favorite names from your batch: "Cherries in the snow" & "Barney" (Barney...???)
