My new "out-of-school status" has afforded me more time to get back to things I really enjoy doing. This includes painting with acrylics. I am currently working on a piece that is loosely based on images from my friend Steve's home in North Dakota. The terrain is vast, beautiful and empty.
These are some thumbnail sketches I made in my sketchbook in order to think about composition and color. I have a feeling the finished piece is going to turn out quite differently, but nevertheless have found this step helpful. I'll post more as the painting develops.

Nice to see someone else does thumbnails in their sketch book. Before I ever used thumbnails I couldn't figure out what purpose they could serve ... it only took once to figure it out

OMG... I want to just crawl inside your head and absorb how your creative mind works! Just love this idea -- and long for the time when I am not so totally overwhelmed with work that I can get back to my own creative endeavors... but in the meantime, this is a great insipration for what to do with my time on the train ride to downtown Chicago... You're amazing... thank you for sharing!
I'm looking forward to seeing the process. I've been experimenting with oil and acrylic and am starting to really like the acrylic but know little about ways of working with it so it will be good to see what you do.
I like th smallness an dteh vastness they reflect.
