When Edgar saw this self-portrait for the first time his reaction was priceless..."PUT THAT AWAY AND NEVER BRING IT OUT AGAIN!" Ha, I have to agree, it is very scary and not one of my finer moments (both artistically and physically). Thankfully however, while I don't think this is quite the goal of a self-portrait, I can honestly say I do not look like this. Thank the Lord!
I attempted this value study because it is something we are asking our students to do. Unfortunately, rather than mapping out the proportions of my face with a graphite pencil prior to applying the colored pencil, I skipped straight to capturing highlights and shadows (yep, even as teachers we don't follow our own rules) and, as I learned the hard way, that simply doesn't work. Instead of sweet Suzanne, you now get scary Neanderthal Suzanne.

I saw your comment on pawprints website. Do not worry you can hire people like me to organize your closet for you. There is still hope. I am just joking. Isn't that picture of her closet amazing? She can match any outfit she want so easily. The juxtaposition of the colors makes for a wonderful aesthetic. Let me know if you need my professional expertise.
