It is impossible for me to go to sleep at night without reading first. I recently finished
The Glass Castle (so good) but haven't gotten started on another novel yet. Instead I read a little from this book and a little from that... Not exactly deep reading...but that is what my mind needs at night.

Just finished "Love in the Driest Season" -- very good true story/memoir... Now am starting on "A Shepherd's Watch" -- another true story about a guy that lives in Scotland and his border collies... gotta love the dog stores. Love your sketch!
I am exactly the same way, can't sleep unless I read first even if it is only 2 paragraphs. I am happy to say I have passed it on to my daughters and granddaughters!
Great sketch - love the red and the way it spills to the next page. I'm like you - can't go to sleep without reading. Unfortunately, a few paragraphs and I'm out like a light. It's no wonder it takes me so long to finish a book. I miss the days when I could laze about for a whole afternoon doing nothing but read...
Hey, I have a couple of those books! ;) Craft, Inc (it's really good!), and The Children's Writers and Illustrators Market guide. Good reading. I've always been curious about the Nicolaides (sp?) book. Do you recommend it?
lovely sketch Suzanne...very effective use of the red and wonderful linework...
your Valentine's Day basket is divine...
Hi Teresa- The Nicolaides books is good...though it requires that you draw...which I'm not very good at doing when its time to sleep:)
I see the Nicolaides book. TRy to read it several times but...
Fun drawing! I like those little arrows and circular doodles. They add a nice touch. :) I'm a bed reader myself ... but lose interest pretty quickly so I have three or four uncompleted books lying on my night table right now.
Thanks, Suzanne! I've been thinking about forcing myself to follow some sort of exercise like that - a project for the year - and this might just fit the bill. :)
Wow, I haven't checked in for a bit, so much to see. I absolutely LOVE what you're doing with the coloured inks here, they're so beautiful, and I can't believe how much more dimension and character it adds. Fantastic, as ever...
hey there!
i'm such a fan of your blog, i awarded you an e for excellence award. yay! feel free to leave your acceptance speech on my blog, and to pass along the love :D
best wishes
The only way I can get the work I have going in my studio is to read something else before I go to sleep. I think the best book I read in 2007 was "The Power of Kindness" by Piero Ferraucci. A lovely read.
I am enjoying your blog a lot. It takes me back to my days in school where I studied interior design.
I rarely read novels, almost everything I read recently is non-fiction. I have just bought my first novel in ages; 'Notes from an Exhibtion' about an artist with bi-polar. Dunno why, it just called out to me. Ha!
Fabulous drawing. I loved getting up close and personal with this one.
Oh, and is that 'The Time Travellers Wife' I spot? How weird, that was the last novel I read!
"The Glass Castle" was great. It's almost unbelieveable that someone could survive that type of upbringing. And a beautiful drawing you've posted there!
I love your work so much; good blog ;)
