This drawing makes me happy. My first year class traveled to Washington, D.C. over the weekend to take in the sights and museums. Without a doubt, one of the best stops was at the
National Building Museum where we visited an exhibit on the art of D
avid Macaulay. What an inspiration.
Yesterday I was able to take a little time to draw "Macaulay style"..quickly...at the
National Museum of Natural History. What fun!

Isn't Macaulay's art great? We saw an exhibit of his work - lots of The Way Things Work stuff with hands-on activities for kids and the kids-at-heart - at the Delaware Art Museum last year. There was also an awesome large, clever, and funky (I don't quite know how to describe it) display of his Rome Antics book.
Your Macaulay-style drawing is wonderful! I would freak out at trying to tackle so many details.
really expressive! i love them!
great, so much with so little. inspiring
Oh these are fantastic Suzanne. I seem to know that guy's work too. It's excellent - just been checking him out on Google. One of his most famous works was about a Welsh castle.
Love these drawings of yours. So many details. Great.
i LOVE this, suzanne! great find! )
These are great. I love the complexity and business, and also how small sections are almost meaningless but the whole is so coherent.
Everything you draw has such "life" to it...whether it be a classic red chair drawn all by itself or a museum overflowing with activity...You have it going on! You inspire me!
Really nice drawings you got there, you took photos also?
I love these. You have such a great sense of design in all your drawings.
Oh, these are wonderful! I have been experimenting with "quicky" techniques myself recently (none of them posted to my blog just yet) as time is so short ... I will have to find out more about Macaulay.
Great sketches. You got so much done, and really conveyed the hustle and bustle of the busy museum.
I love this sketches! So playful and vivid. You can really feel the busy room.
Are you a "cool" outdoor sketcher? I'm always so concerned about the people around me.
