the treasure hunters

As I've mentioned before, my parents are big-time collectors.  Few things make them happier than riding "the back roads" in search of an antique store or stumbling upon a flea market with quality goodies. As a result, their house is a vintage wonderland...  Here's a small sampling of what you'd find if you paid them a visit.

Great stuff! Although I've said I won't make New Year's resolutions this year, I actually have resolved to stop by your blog and visit as often as possible.
Happy New Year to you!

Ha ha...sounds like what you'd find if you visited my husband's grandparent's home! Love that place...it is eye-candy to me.

What I want to know is their secret to stashing all their treasures in an artful, uncluttered way. I have a serious problem with clutter, which is why I never collect anything anymore. :}

I've always wanted to collect buttons. I can imagine their treasure trove would be stunning.

I've always found "collectors" to be very interesting people. I have a few friends who are real collectors and they have such a rich mind and imagination,I love being around them and listening to them. from your cute little sketches, it must be quite the same with your parents.

Hahaha Felicity --- yep, thats right, multiple anvils :)

Teresa--I hope someday to better document my parents home, because surprisingly, despite the amount of things they collect, I've never thought of it being cluttered...just interesting. I think this is where I first got my bug for interior design.

Ronell---interesting is right :)

You know, I don't miss living in the country much.. but I DO miss those old, junky, antique stores. :) So many awesome little goodies that make great painting material. Just don't find that much here in the city.

I'm such a fan of drawings of multiples and collections! I like the way you've simplifed these, so that they look almost like icons.

Cool Sketches. I just realized that you left a comment on my new and under-developed blog. Thanks for the kind words.

Oh noo! I'm also a collector...but our apartment is to small for "me". I love your sketch of all the nice things at your paretns house - my itch "to flea-market" (a verb?)started though :)

Suzanne - are you going to "SketchCrawl" (also a verb?) http://www.sketchcrawl.com/ on saturday?
Me, IHanna(http://www.ihanna.nu/blog/) and Nina Johansson (http://ninajohansson.blogspot.com/) and a bunch of others are sketching all day in Stockholm./Carina

Oh Inger---I'm soooo jealous....so much talent on your sketchcrawl. i wonder how much airfare is to Stockholm?

Suzanne, there are folks who have a talent for displaying their collections with panache, and your parents sound like they are that type. I would love to see either photos or your drawings/paintings of your parents' collections as displayed in their home! Maybe you can make it a little series, like you did with the negligees? :)

Hello! Thanks for stopping by my blog. These are some cute drawings. I know what you mean...my grandparents have the oddest things in their house, but that's why I love it.

LOL, the Anvils are hilarious. :)
