EDM Challenge: Something I'm Thankful For

I did this quick study of Pokey last night before I went to sleep. He was restless and didn't really feel like posing. I feel so sorry for the little guy. Now that I've started back to school he is alone at home between 10 and 11 hours a day....this is way too long. I know that he has to get bored and lonely. I wish I could get another dog to keep him company, but right now that's really not an option. I'm not sure what to do. He brings such joy to my life, I wish I could find a way to bring more to his.

Ah, the look in his eyes is so sweet, and beautifully captured.

Love the expression on his face. Well done!

He does look a little disgruntled but it's such a wonderfully simple and expressive drawing. I would love to have a dog too, but have the same problem with not being home for long hours 3 days a week. I wish you lived nearby, I'd volunteer to visit and walk him. I need a dog buddy in my life!

Thank you Felicity and Karen. Jana- I wish you lived close too! Not only could you have a dog buddy, but also an art buddy :)

It's so hard when you're working or at school all day and they're all alone. Luckily my neighbor comes by at lunch on my longest day and takes my dog for a walk with hers.

Do you have any friends with dogs that would be interested in a puppy play group? I've done that before too - my friend and I both worked so one day the dogs would stay at my house and the next they'd stay at hers. Worked out really well, except for the occasional trashed grill cover ;)

This is a WONDERFUL sketch, Suzanne--you've got so much of his personality and mood in it. And the composition you've chosen underscores his feeling of being hemmed in at home.

Heather- Thanks for the ideas. I think you're right...I need to find a walker or a play group, something to get him out of the house and active.
Laura- Thank you so much for the comments. They mean so much to me having seen your beautiful exploration of animals.
