class division

Last week we had our drawing class divide into two sets of rows facing one another. The ultimate goal was to give the students more practice at drawing people. We also wanted them to focus on scale and detail. For instance, in this drawing, I looked at the layers of people and chairs, paying special attention to their relationships to one another....if the girl in front of me is three inches, how tall is the boy at the back of the room? I also tried to add the most detail to the girl sitting directly in front of me and the least to those the farthest away. One of my struggles was adding enough detail to the center girl's blond hair without going overboard with lines.

Her hair is perfect. It's another great drawing. How amazing it must be to be teaching drawing - and studying at the same time.

This is really amazing. You totally accomplished what you were trying to do. The distant people even look a little soft-focus even though they're drawn with pen. Perfect! I love how you didn't even finish some of their faces, or did them so sketchily. It really works!
