During my last move, in an attempt to downsize, I gave away all of the bookshelves I'd collected from various dumpsters and sidewalks in the past. However, I failed to downsize my book collection. As a result, stacks and stacks of books litter the corners of my house. In the place of a nightstand (I gave that up to) this stack of books rests next to my bed. I'm not exactly sure how these publications ended up together, but I thought their variety was kinda funny.

This is, again, so cool. Wish I'd bloody well thought of it!
I try and try to downsize my book collection... and yet they seem to keep having babies or something... I end up with more than ever. And the last couple of years I have only been reading art books. I can usually find one or two novels to read in the summer... yet the book collection just grows.
I think it's time to go find some more book shelves and give in to the fact that the books are here to stay.
Rather give away the shelves than the books!

:-D This is a hoot! I've tried to do the opposite, giving away or selling as many of my books as I can bear to part with, except for art books, of course, but I have yet to be able to completely empty a book shelf! And now there's always a stack of OTHER books from the library on the table.
Thanks for the colorful description of your booked-out residence! We, too, can relate. Books are everywhere (but mostly on shelves). I'm always uncovering a small pile when I move some paper or something. Also enjoyed your book descriptions and/or how it benefited you (or not). #1 sounds like something I should check out.
Great stack! I had to give away literally hundreds of books when I moved overseas (cept for the true favourites!)and it was SO hard but I know they went to people who appreciated them ... I now have new empty bookshelves (well, some are seriously filled up already) waiting for new collections :)
