faculty feet

The school semester starts back up next week. In preparation, this week has been filled with meetings. Really, I try my best not to draw in them, but sometimes I just have to...the set up is simply too good.

Notice anything missing in this drawing?

I've been studying your sketches, and I think the thing that I find so amazing about them is the fact that often, you are simply drawing a contour outline without any other detail... and yet you manage to capture the ESSENCE of every situation so perfectly. It really is fascinating to me how you do that. You seem to hit the proportions and everything spot on without having to lift your pen. How do you do it? Ahhh... the secrets of great artists... :-)

How brilliant to just draw the feet! I love it. Why do you try not to draw in meetings? Isn't that what they're for? I even invited my painting group to attend a meeting with me this week, with sketchbooks in hand.

Hey Catherine...so funny that you recognized everyone by their feet. I feel kinda sorry for Patrick and the way I drew his...his toes really aren't nearly this big!!!

Lynne- your comment means so much to me as this is really a focus of mine...learning to draw with my eyes through contours. I try to study the object and look at my page as little as I can. It's sometimes a surprise what comes out.

Karen #2- You got it, Robert does have an invisible trick foot!

Thanks Karen #1 and Jana for visiting. I am always pushed forward by your comments.

Wow, thanks for sharing your technique in your response to Lynne. If this sketch was all that I ever saw of your work, I'd KNOW you were extremely talented by your use of line and shapes. These are great sketches!

Great drawing, I enjoy the composition.
What kind of sketchbook and en are you using?

Hi Genine- It's funny you should ask what kind of sketchbook I'm using. I had a whole post about it a while back. Check it out here: http://suzannebuchanan.blogspot.com/2007/04/too-beautiful-for-sketches.html

I actually bought two of these sketchbooks...one for me and one for my boyfriend. I've ended up getting over my fears and working in both. To answer your other question, my current pen of choice is a pilot precise grip extra fine.

I agree with what Lynne wrote and couldn't have said it better. This, on top of being so well drawn, is such a neat idea. School is starting soon for us, and you're giving me inspiration here..!
