beaux arts bridesmaid

I've always loved...loved...fashion illustration. In fact, when I was little I wanted to grow up and be a fashion designer for this very reason---not so much the clothes, but the drawings of clothes.

I decided to try a hand at it last night as I begin planning my outfit for our department's annual Beaux Arts Ball taking place this weekend. This year's theme is based on Maurice Sendak's beautiful book "Where the Wild Things Are". Lucky for me (sewing isn't exactly my strong suit), this means I can get by with ripping rather than hemming.

How neat! I suppose I did, too, want to be a fashion illustor in a way...as a child, I was really into paper dolls and drawing outfits for them. I bought a fashion illustration book later in life thinking I'd teach myself some basics, but I honestly don't think I have the talent.

We love "Where the Wild Things Are"! We have it in both English and Spanish. :)

Make sure you post a photo of your outfit!

Yep, neat (you know, we never use that saying over here - 'neat', that is. It feels really strange even typing it).

I too loved fashion design. For the drawings, of course.

That's funny - I also loved to draw women in different kinds of clothes (though I didn't want to make the clothes, just draw them). And now my daughter Lylah does the same thing. She has filled notebooks with drawings of girls in clothes and clothes by themselves. Must be something in the DNA. Anyway, I love this sketch, and you could do a little series of them to frame for you house.

Super drawing! I felt the same about those fashion illustrations - after reading this and the comments I wonder if they affected and inspired a great many people?!

Oh, ripping is always more interesting than hemming! In another life long ago, I actually did do fashion...the hemming type, not the ripping sort..pity! I also want to see your outfit?
