I've determined that of all the subjects one can draw, the Eames Molded Plywood Chair might just be the hardest. Night before last, after watching me struggle to get anything on the page for nearly 30 minutes, Edgar challenged me to a draw-off. It's his assertion that the best way to draw the chair is to break it down to cubes in perspective. I, on the other hand, feel a careful observation of the contours and negative space is the way to go. (Uh yeah, we're nerds...) I'll leave the decision of the winner up to you :)

Have to say -- they're both excellent -- but I do like yours better (sorry Edgar!). I think it may partially due to the really tough angle that Edgar's chair is drawn from -- but also, the proportions on yours seem to totally line up for me. What I love is that I can also see your placement lines -- which is fascinating to me because it helps me to further break down and refine my own drawing/seeing techniques. Good job both of you!
I think yours is better ;)But they are almost different styles...so it could be a tie...

Gosh I love your blog. You've inspired and re-energized me to get back to the fun part of sketching and blogging instead of my laborious oil painting process posts I've been stuck in lately. I'm supposed to be finishing up at work and going home but got lost in your blog and stayed late at work. Jana
They are both awesome, but I think I'd tend to draw the chair as you did :)

Edgar, I have to say I was staggered by your drawing! Whilst Suzanne's has the technical edge, yours brings out the personality of the chair - you show it's sensitivity and coursge, oh and another thing .. sometimes men have to stick together, no matter what!

I think yours looks technically better, but Edgar's seems to have its own character. It looks like it belongs in a roald dahl-esque story about school children.
